VTV.vn – Microsoft and Mayo Clinic are collaborating to develop a medical AI model that will help doctors and patients access more accurate health information.
With the increasing trend of people using AI chatbots to ask health-related questions, Microsoft and Mayo Clinic are collaborating to develop an AI model specialized in the health field.
In the past, many people searched for medical information online. Now, tens of millions of people are turning to AI-powered chatbots—automated conversational tools that can respond in natural language. However, because popular chatbots are often trained from a variety of data sources, including vast amounts of internet content, their medical responses may be inaccurate or even risky.
The joint project between Microsoft and Mayo Clinic aims to solve this problem by creating a specially trained artificial intelligence model using medical data, including records, research, and the experiences of doctors at Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic is a large American healthcare system known for treating and researching complex medical cases.
Mayo Clinic CEO Gianrico Farrugia said the project needed the right data and the right experts to create better health outcomes for users.

According to the plan, Mayo Clinic will own this AI model. Initially, the technology could be used to assist doctors at Mayo Clinic hospitals and later licensed to other healthcare organizations. The two parties also want to develop a medical AI assistant that patients can use to ask questions through the hospital’s online portal.
This tool can help patients better understand their diagnoses, next steps in treatment, or preventative information. Additionally, this model could improve the responses of Microsoft’s AI-powered chatbot, Copilot, to health-related questions.
However, Microsoft says this process won’t happen quickly. Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman predicts that it will take years for both sides to train and validate the model to ensure it’s accurate enough before widespread use for high-risk medical questions.
The model will initially be presented to experts at Mayo Clinic for accuracy testing. Mayo Clinic stated that it anonymizes patient data for AI training and has previously developed smaller models to aid in the detection of heart disease and the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
